Photographers do a lot more than just snap the photos on your big day. We are also great planning assistants! One question that always pops up is about the first looks and why you should have one. Or shouldn’t! So keep reading to see the pros.
To start this discussion, let’s break it down from the top. What is a first look? Traditionally, the first look was referred to the moment the groom caught a glimpse of the blushing bride at the opposite end of the aisle. However, over time, due to a number of reasons, couples began electing to have a first look prior to the ceremony.
Some of the main reasons couples choose to set aside time for a first look include:
If these five reasons still don’t have you convinced, consider a first touch for an added touch of intimacy! Let’s celebrate the day how you want it!
If you are having a big party or an intimate elopement, there are other ways to include first looks. First looks can be a fun addition with family members and the wedding party!
Option One: After your bridal party is finished changing, shoe them out of your area so it can be a complete surprise. Even if you took them to your dress fittings, this look will be different! Now your hair and makeup is finished, and it’s THE DAY. Watch your group of supporters take a peek at you for the first time and share a special moment with your closest friends (or family!).
Option Two: Before the first look with your groom, get your parents and surprise them with a little reveal of their own. It’s another great heirloom image to add to the album and share with your kids later on.
Option Three: If you have kids of your own, kick them out until you and your partner have shared your first look. Then do a first look with the whole family! What a beautiful, private experience.
