The beauty of elopements lies in the freedom to choose the perfect destination that resonates with your unique story. Here are some unique opportunities for elopement locations that speak to the adventurers out there.

• Mountains + National Parks: Think of exchanging vows amidst the grandeur of the Rockies, the serene beauty of Yosemite, or the mystical allure of the Smoky Mountains. There are tons of amazing parks with stunning peaks for the perfect backdrop. Some of my favorites include: North Cascades National Park and Mt Rainier National Park. Notice a theme? I LOVE the Pacific Northwest region.
• Coastal Escapes: Sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs, or remote islands – a beachfront elopement offers the sound of waves and a sunset that can’t be beaten. I have some favorites in Northern California that you have to check out!
• Forest Retreats: Immersing in the heart of nature in the depths of the forest creates an enchanting atmosphere. Locally, Arizona has some fantastic locations. Personally, Payson Rim and Tonto Bridge are great options for couples in the area or those looking to plan an intimate experience.

Planning an Intimate Experience Incorporating Traditional Elements

While elopements are traditionally known for being private affairs, as I mentioned the definition and look of an elopement has adapted over the years.

Some couples wish to share this intimate moment with a small group of close family and friends. If that sounds like you, here are three ideas how to add them as part of the experience:

• Plan an additional pre or post elopement celebration.
• Ask a close friend to officiate.
• Insist that parents sign as the witnesses!

Elopements don’t have to be cut and dry. All of the details are completely customizable. Take the opportunity to incorporate meaningful traditions into ceremony! These traditions can be as unique and personal as you want.

When it comes to tradition here’s what I’m talking about.

• Unity Ceremonies: Irish hand-fasting, branding, lighting of a candle, sand-pouring, etc. One unique idea depending on the allocations of your ceremony location is planting a tree!
• Cultural Touches: Breaking of the glass, henna painting, foot-washing, prayers, communion, etc.
• Family Heirlooms: Okay, so this may not be a “tradition,” but it is a great personal touch! Invite family to include sentimental items as decor or personal items that you can hold throughout the day.
