Things to Expect for Your Engagement Session
Engagement sessions are a wonderful way to capture the love and excitement leading up to your big day. They offer a chance to create beautiful memories and stunning photographs that you can cherish forever. If you’re planning a professional photographed engagement session, here’s what you can expect to ensure the experience is smooth, enjoyable, and results in gorgeous images.
Before the actual photo shoot, you’ll typically have a consultation with your photographer. If you don’t hop on a call, some photographers have a questionnaire of some sort to help in the planning! This meeting or form is crucial for several reasons:
Vision and Style: Discuss the style of photos you envision, whether it’s candid, formal, romantic, or fun.
Location Scouting: Decide on the locations that are meaningful to you as a couple or provide the backdrop you desire.
Wardrobe Tips: Get advice on what to wear. Coordinating outfits without matching too closely is key, and the photographer can guide you on colors and styles that work well on camera.
Scheduling: Determine the best time of day for natural lighting, which often means shooting during the “golden hour” around sunrise or sunset.
What to Expect on the DAY OF Your Engagement Session
On the day of your engagement session, here’s what to expect:
Relaxed Atmosphere: As a professional photographer, I do my absolute best to create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere to help you feel at ease. This is essential for capturing genuine emotions and natural interactions.
Posing Guidance: If you’re not a natural in front of the camera, don’t worry. That’s why you hire a professional! I’ll guide you through poses and interactions that feel comfortable and look fantastic.
Multiple Settings: Depending on what was discussed prior to the session, we might shoot in several locations to provide variety in your photos. This could range from urban settings to nature trails or even cozy indoor scenes.
Wardrobe Changes: Some couples opt for outfit changes to capture different looks and styles. Plan your outfits in advance and ensure they align with the chosen settings.
The beauty of engagement sessions lies in the candid moments. You are always encouraged to engage with each other rather than just the camera. This might include walking hand in hand, sharing a joke, or simply enjoying a quiet moment together.
The goal is for the images to look and feel like you as a couple. Let’s “plan” for genuine!! Speaking of genuine, something I will focus on includes the emotions and unique connection you share. Whether it’s a tender gaze or an uncontrollable laugh, these moments create the most memorable photos.
