If you’re reading this, I already know you want something fun, different, and maybe a little wild for your engagement photos. Latourell Falls is exactly that! You hear it before you even see it. That low, steady roar that makes you so excited you even chose to do a waterfall engagement in the first place. Then you turn the corner, and it’s just there, water dropping straight down, mist in the air, wind doing its thing. And suddenly this doesn’t feel like a photoshoot anymore. Outdoor engagement photos here never feel like a photoshoot.
They feel like you stepped into something special. You’re a little damp, your hair’s doing its own thing, and you’re probably laughing halfway through because trying to “keep it together” at a waterfall like this is just not the point.
Waterfall engagement photos are all about leaning into what’s happening, letting it feel a little wild, a little unplanned, and way more like an experience than something you have to get “right.” That’s where Latourell Falls really shines.
It’s one of my favorite places for waterfall engagement photos in Oregon for a reason!

Let’s Plan Your Oregon Engagement Photos
Latourell Falls isn’t a “stand here, look at me, okay, perfect” kind of place. It doesn’t really let you treat it like that. You’ve got the water going the entire time, like loud enough that you have to lean in a little closer just to talk. There’s that cool spray in the air, you start to feel it on your skin, and the wind kind of does whatever it wants. It has movement the entire time, which allows you to have movement too (perfect for photos).

And that’s the part I love. This is my favorite kind of session, hands down!
You stop thinking about the photos pretty fast. The spray kicks up, you’re laughing, grabbing onto each other for a second, then just letting go and rolling with it.
And honestly, that’s what outdoor engagement photos are all about. Being in it, not trying to control everything, just taking it as it comes.
That’s when the best photos happen, too, the real laughs, the “okay wait what just happened” moments, not caring that you’re a little soaked. Those are the ones you actually remember. The kind where you look back, and you’re like, “Remember when the wind shifted, and we got completely sprayed and couldn’t stop laughing?”
That feeling, that’s the whole point.

This is one of those places where the less you try to make everything perfect… the better it ends up looking. And for me, I’m watching how the light is coming through, where the light is catching the spray from the falls, when to move you five feet to the left so everything lines up better, but you don’t have to worry about any of that because I’m guiding you while allowing you to experience it all.

You’ve probably seen waterfall engagement photos and thought, “Okay, wait… that looks insane.” (and yes it does!!). But what people don’t always realize is how different it feels once you’re actually in it. It’s louder than you expect. Like, you’re not casually talking at a normal volume, you’re leaning in, half laughing, repeating yourself, a little closer than usual, maybe even screaming so you can hear one another, without even thinking about it. And that alone changes the energy in a way that feels way more fun and natural.

Because you stop trying to keep everything in place, you’re reacting to what’s happening and brushing water off your arms, laughing when the wind shifts, pulling each other in a little closer without being told to. It’s less “pose, adjust, hold” and more just being in it together.
And that’s why outdoor engagement photos at a waterfall work so well. They don’t give you the option to over-control everything, which ends up being such a good thing. You let go of trying to make it perfect, and what you get instead actually feels like something.

Latourell Falls looks super simple online… but in real life, it’s a little more going on than you’d think if you don’t know what you’re getting yourself into. Which is why you have me, I already know how to make it easy, so lets talk about it!

It’s a short walk from the parking area, nothing intense, but also not completely flat. You’re on a paved trail for part of it, then closer to the falls, where things get a little damp and uneven.
You don’t need hiking boots or anything dramatic, but I definitely wouldn’t show up in brand-new slippery shoes. Think something you can actually walk in, boots, sneakers, or anything with a little grip.
Same with outfits, go for something you can move in, something that feels easy. Flowy dresses, layers, anything that doesn’t need constant adjusting once we get going!
Yes, you’re probably going to get a little wet, but that’s the fun part! The mist, the breeze, everything moving around you, it’s what makes this place feel so alive. And yeah, the wind might mess with your hair a little, but that’s exactly what we want, we love the wind. Movement is what makes photos feel good, not everything being perfectly in place.
After a few minutes, you stop thinking about it anyway and just lean into it, and that’s when we get the best photos!

This is defintely a popular place, I mean how could it now be? (Its gorgeous!). Especially midday and on weekends. But this is one of those places where timing and a little bit of strategy make a huge difference. I highly suggest, early mornings or later evenings! And if we do decide to go in the afternoons thats okay, I know how to shift where we’re standing and can make it feel way more private than you’d expect!

This is honestly one of my favorite things about Latourell. You don’t need to commit to a long hike or need to block off your entire day. It’s easy, you show up, we walk in, and you get this really immersive, waterfall experience.
Okay, this is the part everyone side-eyes a little. “What if it rains?” And I get it. No one’s picturing rain when they think about their engagement photos. But also, this is Oregon and Oregon rain is the best type of rain!

Here’s the real take:
Okay but let’s talk outfits in more depth for a sec, because this location will humble you real quick if you pick the wrong thing 😂.

Here’s what actually makes a difference:

The goal isn’t to keep everything perfectly in place, and that’s kinda the whole point here It’s to wear something that lets you move, relax, and really that feels like you.
This is the part people don’t always think about, but it’s the reason your photos end up feeling the way they do. Latourell Falls can feel like a quick stop where you grab a few photos and head out, or it can turn into a full on experince. Same place, completely different energy depending on how you approach it!
This place is seriously gorgeous, so I always say take a second and actually take it in. Walk the trail, listen to the water, look around a bit.
It helps you settle in and makes everything feel way less like a task and more like you’re just there together.

We’ll have a loose plan going in, but there’s always room to move with what’s happening. Some of the best moments come from the in-between, pausing, switching things up, or just going with whatever feels right in the moment.
It’s really just the smaller things, walking together, turning into each other, slowing down, moving without overthinking it. I’ll guide you through it the whole time with little prompts so it never feels awkward or like you have to “pose.”

This is usually the shift. When you stop thinking about the photos and just focus on being together. It feels more relaxed, more natural, and honestly like a really fun date. As an Oregon engagement photographer, I’m still guiding the whole time, watching light, spacing, timing, but it never feels like I’m stopping you every few seconds (i’m basically not even there). It’s more like I’m shaping things around you while you’re already in it.
And that’s what makes the difference. Photos that don’t just look good, they actually feel like you were there, because you are!

If you’re an outdoor person, like you love being in nature, don’t mind getting a little wet, walking on dirt trails, and being fully surrounded by it all, this is 100% something you’re going to love.
Latourell Falls is one of those places where you can really lean into the experience. The sound of the water, the mist in the air, everything moving around you, it just feels fun to be there.
At the end of the day, it’s less about choosing the most popular spot and more about choosing a place that matches the kind of energy you want your photos to have. And if a little spray in the air, movement, and not overthinking it sounds right, Latourell Falls tends to land really well.

You don’t need to have this fully figured out before reaching out. Honestly, most people don’t. They just know they want something that feels a little different, and that’s enough to start. Whether Latourell Falls ends up being the spot, or it turns into something else entirely, I’ll help narrow it down based on what fits.
Because there’s a big difference between a location that looks cool… and one that will work for you! If Latourell Falls is part of that, I’m all for it. I can’t wait to hear from you! Reach out today.
