Merry Go Round Rock is incredible, but it’s not Arizona’s only adventure. Every extra decoration starts competing with the landscape…and trust me, you’re not going to win that battle. Sometimes simple really is better.

How to Get to Merry Go Round Rock Sedona

Let’s talk logistics for a minute, because this is probably the biggest thing couples ask me about.

Getting to Merry Go Round Rock Sedona isn’t quite as simple as plugging it into Google Maps and cruising up a paved road. The overlook sits off Schnebly Hill Road, Sedona, which is known for being rocky, uneven, and a whole lot more fun in the right vehicle.

If you’re planning to drive yourself, I’d recommend renting a Jeep or bringing a high-clearance 4WD vehicle. Could another vehicle make it? Sometimes. Would I want to spend the entire drive worrying about my suspension? Definitely not.

Another great option is booking a local Jeep tour or shuttle service. There are several companies in Sedona that regularly drive the route, so if you’d rather relax and enjoy the views without thinking about the road, that’s a really fun way to experience it, too.

The drive itself usually takes around 30 to 45 minutes from downtown Sedona, depending on road conditions, but I’d always recommend giving yourself extra time. Trust me, you’re going to want to stop for photos before you even make it to the Merry Go Round Sedona overlook.

Do You Really Need a Jeep

Let’s put it this way, I’d rent the Jeep every single time. Could you technically make it up there with another high-clearance vehicle? Sometimes. Would I recommend risking your daily driver just because Google said, “it’s probably fine?” Absolutely not.

Winter might be the most underrated season of all. Fewer crowds, crisp air, and every once in a while, you get lucky enough to see snow dusting the red rocks.

Grab breakfast before your session, wander through Uptown Sedona, spend an extra day hiking, or find a patio for dinner after the sun goes down. There’s no shortage of great restaurants, coffee shops, and trails to explore.

If you want to be close to shopping and restaurants, staying in Uptown Sedona makes getting around really easy. If you’re looking for something a little quieter, West Sedona has some beautiful vacation rentals and hotels while still being just a short drive from Merry Go Round Rock Sedona.

The couples who enjoy this experience the most usually treat it like a little getaway instead of just another thing to cross off the wedding to-do list.
