Doesn’t sound like a complicated question, does it? However, answering the big question of “what shoes should I wear to my elopement” can vary depending on the kind of elopement that is being planned.

On the other hand, if you want to hike six miles and exchange vows on the top of a mountain, heels are not going to keep your feet happy. That’s not to say you couldn’t pack a pair for when you get to the top, but plan ahead for the terrain.

After experiencing several various scenarios, here’s what I believe:

• Snowy – Pack your snowshoes. Literally. Walking around may feel funny, but it’s the best way to navigate. Then you can swap for a pair of fur-lined boots or more formal shoes for the vow exchange if you’d like! If you don’t intend on hiking around in the snow very much, you could also incorporate your snowboard or skis. Showcase your passions. Maybe you met on the slopes or it’s one of your favorite pass-times? Incorporate your hobbies and fun quirks.
• Sandy – Ditch the shoes. Have you ever tried walking in sneakers on the shore? Me either. There’s a reason for that! No one likes sand in their socks or the feeling of sinking in. However, if you aren’t really into the barefoot vibes, you could aways opt for a pair of sandals that are light and open. They also have lace “sandals” that illude to shoes but allow you to walk freely if you want the best of both worlds!
• Misty – Look for grip. Pack the best water shoes you have or a sturdy pair of hikers. The last thing you want to remember is slipping on mossy rocks or damp ground on your wedding day!!

Does Your Elopement Have a Unique or Special Theme?

Outside of activities, location, and weather, another aspect to consider is your theme or overall mood. If you plan to hike six miles, cowboy boots are not going to be the best choice after about a mile in. However, if you are very western, you could always pack them in your bag and swap them out after the adventure is over! That way you are including a personal touch that adds to your story during portraits and vows.
